Ammon water rates increasing
AMMON - In 2007 the citizens of Ammon passed the water bond, and now it is time to pay it off. In just a few weeks, water rates will be rising in Ammon. In fact, they'll be doubling. It might not be a surprise to learn a lot of Ammon water customers are upset with a 100-percent rate increase.

The mayor has called for a community hearing, July 29 at 7:30pm, where the city council and the mayor will hear comments and give out information on the proposed water increase.
We have completely built a new water system for Ammon in the last few years, that doesn't come free," said Ammon Mayor Steve Fuhriman.

The hearing will be at the city building with over flow at the fire station in Ammon.

"We anticipate a crowd to be here and rightfully so, we like to see people get involved in government. Had they been more involved the last few years, they would have a better understanding of why this happening, but most of us don't get involved until it hits our pocket book," said Mayor Steve Fuhriman.

The bond was used to build a better water system for the residents of Ammon.

"We'll explain to people what has happened the last few years, why it has happened? Why it was necessary, and what has been done," said Mayor Steve Fuhriman.

The proposed price increase will go from 18.25 to 39.25 a month. The mayor says at the meeting the council will show that this is comparable to other surrounding cities. We called around and found that Rigby and Idaho Falls, are both around 17 dollars a month.

Pocatello and Driggs are on a metered systems. The mayor says that in a couple years Ammon will also turn to a metered system.

The rate increase go into effect if implemented on September 1, 2010. If you want more information you can click on newslinks.
