Illegal street racers put your lives at risk every night, and while the cops can't catch them. Newswatch three did.
Illegal street racing is an everywhere, every night occurance.
And each night it only takes a second for things to go terribly wrong.
"Engines will blow up, people will flip over," says an anonymous racer.
"It's like pointing a gun into a crowd and pulling a trigger, that's how serious it is," says Lt. Royce Clements.
For many racing is a dangerous game of russian roulette.
"I knew people who died as a result of it, he lost control of his car his tires went flat and it just killed him on impact," says an anonymous racer.
"I started flipping, it happens in a couple of seconds but everything goes really slow and you think you're going to die," says an anonymous racer.
Still racers willingly face the possibility of death in exchange for the rush.
"There's nothing like hooking up on a drag strip it just sticks you back in the seat and its just so cool," says an anonymous racer.
"Nothing around here can beat that if there's something to do besides that i'd like to see it," says an anonymous racer.
"For me racing is completely addicting, I can't get enough of it," says an anonymous racer.
Thanks to Hollywood, gangsters, rebels, and outlaws are the faces you expect to see behind these hot rods, but the dragsters of Eastern Idaho have little resemblence to these bad boys.
The guys manning these powerful vehicles aren't your average juvenile delinquents. In fact, some of them are even this community's future leaders.
"We do good in school. We get A's we're not the drop outs, the failing kids we're the top of our class out having a good time," says an anonymous racer.
KIDK found respected business men, parents, church leaders and even local law enforcement getting their kicks in this illegal activity.
"There's the adults that have the faster cars and show the little kids what's out there," says on racer.
"we all work fulltime jobs, we all make good money. we're not bad people that's just what we like to do," says one racer.
