My Goat was chained up and alive as of 10pm lastnight when we went to bed.At 4am when we checked our animals the goat was dead and chewed up by a pack of dogs. There is a leash law in Idaho even in the country but no one will abide by it because we are in the country. now we got to find these dogs cause they have the taste of blood and they WILL strike again. This is not the only time that they have killed, here about four months ago they killed my rabbits.

quit crying grandma

Are you sure it is a dog and not a wolf?

Dogs ore good to have but they need to have manners or be chained up. if dogs are running around at night, they should be shot if not on your property, becuase of what nuicance they can create, or other preditors they can bring in out of the wild.

First Off I would like to say to Dustypics that I am sorry for your lose. It is sad and unfortunate that this has taken place. Try not to take others cruel words into heart as if they was in your shoes I am sure they would be upset as well:(

could have been coyotes depending on where it is you live

Are you sure your county has a leash law? I thought only the city did?

You live in the country and your goat got eaten? How is this news? Also, my 6-year old would like to thank you for the picture... very classy.

How is this news? Come on get real. Either there is a large pack of dogs or wolves in the area and people need to protect their livestock. Maybe you're a city dweller and this has no bearing on your life but to those with livestock, it does.

ok country or city it does not matter it is the same dogs/wolves they get the taste of blood they will go for people next you get a pack of dogs together they will try to take on much bigger things and with the fences up these dogs will find a way in

Dogs/wolves are not the same. If wolves or coyotes did this and you are accusing dogs, they could be unfairly targeted by livestock owners. My dog has been blamed for missing cats and chasing horses even tho he onlygoes out to pee.

Where are you people's compassion?? It may or may not be news to some of you, but can you see the goat owner is upset about losing her pet? Put yourself in her shoes for a minute....

To Ryan, dogs should NOT be chained up. Chaining up a dog only leads to frustration and aggression. Increasing the risk that it will attack. Plus it is just plain mean. If you can not take care of a dog , then it is simple....do not get one.

I agree with you. You are responsible for your pet. Unfortunately the dog people aren't responsible for theirs. That's why we have to have chain laws and laws that require people to clean up after their dogs. It's because they don't.

i say kill all the dogs. who needs them? they suck and you should just not get one. and just for the record the city of preston has a leash law. but the county does not. so lets eat goat:)

Dogs are OUT OF CONTROL!!! I live in Pocatello and the dogs in my neighborhood never shut up. I have contacted my neighbors, the police, animal control and nobody does anything about it. Something has got to be done!!!

to linda a leash law is great thing and people who think otherwise are idiots plus i hate when people take their dogs for walks and let them go on peoples lawns! have some class!

Of all the posts here, hardly anyone shows any class. I am sorry for the loss of your goat. That's very sad and dog owners need to take responsibility. That means, spaying/neutering, so we don't have unwanted pets, fenced areas for them to roam in

.....And supervision...it does not mean dogs are worthless. It means that some of the people who take care of them are worthless.

goats are cheap get a new one.

Go check out Idaho code/statute Title 25 Chapter 28. That is all the information you need to take care of Dog at Large problems. Idaho Code 25-2806 would be your best bet dusty.

Most of you are so crude and way to stupid. Spay and neuter is the thing that needs to be addressed. There are a lot of people who should not be allowed to breed, nor should be allowed to own a dog or cat. Sorry about your goat, but you need a fence.

Get a grip grandma. From the pic I'm guessing that it wasn't a dog. I'd say grandpa had something to do with it.

I very much dought there is a thing like that in the country yes in a city maybe but now way in the country

Maybe you should have fed Grandpa better. He probably blamed it on the dogs so he get finally get some meat on the table.

if a "pack of and or wolves" did this i'm jolly ole saint nick...for real i think it's convenient that the whole pack jus went for the neck i mean it's thrashed yet there's not a single abrasion anywhere else on the body nor legs...hmmmmm ;~)

sorry lol a pack of dogs and/or wolves lmao

You guys are pathetic. Do you realize people from outside our little area can read these and see how immature and stupid you are acting? GROW UP.

what a disgrace most of you are. we have lots of livestock and plenty of predators to worry about you obviously have no idea what a coyote is. and i agree chaining up your dog is the dumbest thing i have ever heard of......

and i would like to beat the hell out of everyone i see doing it. what is the point of having an animal if you chain it up. i hope in your next lives you get what you give. jerks

Are you people serious?? This was not an act done by dogs. What we got here is some satanic ritual going on.. Everyone please be careful of the GOAT devil!! God bless

shoot the dogs, wolves, coyotes, or what ever is preying on your livestock. I'm sure that you have plenty of people in the community that will lend a hand, or a rifle. Sorry for the loss of your goat

Do what I do, dogs come on to my property they do not leave walking. They leave dead in the back of my truck to the landfill. If people have dogs and can not keep them on their own property they do not deserve to have them.

how about i put you on a chain see how you like it! you shouldn't of had a goat on a chain anyway maybe it could of got away if it wasnt on a chain!!! DUH!!!

Hey, here's an idea, put your goat in a proper shelter at night (not a chain) and get a couple of good dogs for protection. Most dogs I know are better people than most people I know!! Just a thought!

She can't! Her goat is DEAD! Duh! I think what she's trying to say is that some body needs to complain to the county authorities and take care of the wild dog pack they've got going on out there in Preston!

And thanx for letting the rest of the world know what a bunch of uneducated pusses Idahoans are! I would just shoot the dogs if they were on my property killing my pets.

Goats are commonly chained during the day in areas that need grazed without fences. The folks are right that say you need to protect them at night. I have lost many chickens and ducks due to lack of proper protective shelter. Goats are not cheap.

who lived there first is what i'd like to know, i just moved to idaho and know that my neighbors do not leash their dogs, . . . so common sense tells me to not leave my animals unprotected (not change the rules and force my neighbors to alter thiers)

Dog haters should be shot!!!

Sorry about your dog from the looks I would agree it was dogs a coyote would have killed from the head. Dogs kill from the rear after ripping and tearing at the body. Shoot to kill in Idaho you are allowed to shot animals harasing livestock.

Supose to be dog troubles. We just recently got one and our dog losses have stoped all together even taking care of coyote and wesels. From horses ran through fences to chickens killed and goats.

When I worked on a Preston farm years ago, any dog that chased the livestock was just shot. It might be the neighbor's dog, but the neighbor understood 'cause he had cows too.

this is an on going problem and growing worse, city fella has to move or something and decides old shep would like to live the wild dream because no one else wants him turns him lose in the country, if shep survives he joins a pack and learns to live

and to live he and his pack mates kill to eat, packs get larger and they eat more, I was a farmer / Rancher, we shot every stray we saw. with increased attacks in this area have wondered about hiring out to take out attackers around citys,

Notice how the news reports how animal attacks are going up, here in Colorado every city seems to have it, you turn the dog lose or let a wild coyote get to tame and it attacks people or there pets, you want yours safe shoot to kill! gun for hire!!!

Better yet, get TEAM JACOB and his werewolf buddies to take out these dogs!

IM SORRY TO HERE ABOUT YOUR ANIMALS, ITS TO BAD PEOPLE CANT TAKE CARE OF THERE PETS. MAYBE IF WE CHAINED SOME OF THE PET OWNERS UP AND LET THERE BUTTS GET CHEWED OFF THEY WOULD START FOLLOWING THE RULES..I HAVE BEEN IN YOUR SHOES..GOOD LUCK

The only way you'll be able to get over your loss is a nice steam or bubble bath, which will promote inner peace. Then the mean dogs won't seem so mean anymore.

Some of these comments only serve to illustrate the old addage that there's no sense being stupid if you don't show it.

. . . after all, I'm completely clueless when it comes to common sense, but that's OK since I demonstrate that on a daily basis.

By the looks of the goat (from the picture), it appears that this goat is just fine. Maybe just taking a snooze. This must be a fabricated story just to entertain those with limited cultural opportunities in Preston. Try driving to Logan next time!

doesn't matter if there is a leash law or not. Dogs must be kept under control and in there own property. Don't let me catch someone else's dog in my yard doing mischief..that would be the last time it did.

There sure are a lot of tough guys commenting on this story. I call serious bull on people that claim just because there is a dog on thier property they run in and grab their 270 and fire away. You're all talk!

If was a pack of dogs they need to be shot asap... Put out a live trap place food in it to attract the animals then as you catch em kill em... Wow why don't you come over the next time me or someone in my family catches a vicious dog and watch..

Hey cryzbiker - I'll take you up on your offer. Make sure and give me a call next time you catch a vicious dog. I'd be interested to see your process for handling the situation.(208) 343-3166

i am sorry for you if you crying i am gonna cry with you okl

Put some antifrez in a bowl, whatever out there, get them before they get you? you have the right to protect you and your property.

First off I am sorry for the lose of your goat. But how do you know it was a pack of dogs and not a coyote? Looks a lot like a coyote kill. If you live in rural Idaho you should know about predators and the risks with having live stock.

Unless you have proof of what it is you can not say. We don't all need to go grab pitch forks an go on a dog hunt. The taste of blood remark was just ridiculous. If that were the case any animal that eats another would immediately be on on a blood

What is the matter with all of you? First off the lady is upset over the lost of her animal, second off do you have proof that it was dogs that caused this problem? Why is it that you all want to handle trouble by killing an animal. I'm sick of you!

I am so sorry for your loss. You are right there is a leash law and some people do not abide by it. But I have to ask, why would you leave your goat chained up at night instead of putting it in a shed for protection from predators?
