My 17 year old son was walking to the bus stop in the Falls brook mobile home park Monday April 7th 2008 around 8:00a.m., when a guy yelled out his name, my son couldn’t tell if he knew who this guy was or not, so my son went up to the guy and asked “who are you”? The guy didn’t answer my son, he only reached for something or had something in his hand that my son thought that the guy was going to hit him in the head with something, so my son lifts up his arm up to block the guy from hitting my son in the head, my son felt a very sharp pain in his arm, as the guy just took off toward the canal my son then dropped his backpack to the ground and leaving it there as he grabbed his arm and ran home. I immediately called 911, the first officer arrived approximately around 8:10a.m., the ambulance came, then the next officer came and he said that my son was lucky because there are 4 existing gangs in this mobile home park. I was shocked! I asked the officers if the gangs are behind the vandalism and they said yes that it’s a game that gang call tag, one gang will paint their logo claiming the territory, the next gang paints over that with their logo claiming the territory, and then it’s repeated over and over, the paramedics said that I could just take my son to the hospital or community care of my choice so I took my son into the community care where he received 8 stitches in his left forearm. I kept my son home for the rest of that day. My son doesn’t know the guy that sliced open his arm but he sure dose know that it is no longer a safe happy community. I feel for every person out there that may have fears because of these gangs and I also know that if we support each other we can be rid of the gangs in our community.
