BOISE, Idaho (AP) _ Boise State opens the spring workout season today.

And Bronco coach Chris Petersen says he's looking to push the team a little harder during practices over the next few weeks.

Petersen says it was evident that the quality of the team's practices waned near the end of last season ... a factor he says contributed to a pair of season-ending losses.

This year, Petersen says players should be ready to pick up the pace in practice. That means hustling between individual drills and fewer huddles during team segments.

The Broncos finished 10-and-three last year, but lost the league title game at Hawaii and closed out the season with a loss to East Carolina in the Hawaii Bowl.

Petersen says maintaining that sense of hustle will be key to getting back to regaining the Western Athletic Conference title this fall.

The Broncos have 15 practices scheduled over the next four weeks. The spring workouts end April 11 with the annual spring game.
