Student Athlete of the Week - Katie Harker

IDAHO FALLS - The Bonneville Bees, slam home another kill, as the best volleyball team in the state wins their annual Bonneville-Hillcrest tournament against the best teams in the area.

But those kills wouldn't be possible without a little 5'4" dynamo who does more digging than the local cemetery.

Katie Harker, is the Bees libero. That means she stays in back and does the team's dirty work, digging out balls that otherwise would go for points to the other team, and setting up her bigger, high jumping teammates on the front lines.

A two year starter on the varsity, Katie has really come into her own this year. 234 digs so far, that's 234 times she went sliding across a floor to save a shot.

It's helped the bees to a 24-3 record. She had 85 digs this past weekend, when Katie was the most valuable player in the tournament.

And she's a star in the classroom with a 3.999 grade point average. She had one A- as a freshman.

Katie Harker, the high energy digging machine of the Bonneville Bees, is a clear choice as our KIDK Student Athlete of the Week.

This week Gov. Otter signed a bill requiring Idaho to sue the federal government if Congress passes health care reform. What's your response to this?

  • It's great to see Idaho taking the lead on this. Someone has to stand up to what's happening in Washington.
  • We can't afford to pay for education in Idaho, but we're going to spend tax dollars to sue the feds? Ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
