Chase Richins - Student Athlete of the Week 9-2-08
By Ted Dawson
When Shelley All Starter, Tanner Higham threw this touchdown pass in a scrimmage ten days ago, little did they know that he had separated a shoulder. So when the Russets opened up last Friday night, they had to go with a 5'7" 145 pound junior, Chase Richins at quarterback.
I guess he did well, not only did he play quarterback, but on some plays he went to receiver, and let hiham throw to him six times for 68 yards and a touchdown. Chase's dad, dwight, is the head coach at Shelley, so Chase has been running htis offense since he was in the fifth grade. Chase, who also is a star wrestler and baseball player carries a 3.75 grade point average. In addition to filling in at quarterback, Chase played wide receiver, running back, free safety, was the long snapper on punts, held for extra pints, and returned kickoffs and punts. There's no question about it. Chase Richins is worthy of being named our first KIDK student athlete of the week. |
