Chukars give back through new recycling program
IDAHO FALLS - There's now an even bigger incentive to recycle.

This is the first season that the Chukars have partnered with Pacific Steel and Recycling to put these recycling bins all over the ball park.

"One of the things we realized was the amount of trash we go through. It's an incredible of trash. And mostly it's paper products, plastic products and a lot of cans. So it made perfect sense that we start doing the right thing and recycle. It's been very well received. We've had the Pacific Recycling bins right next to each of our concession stands. We've amassed quite a bit of recyclable material," explains General Manager Kevin Greene.

Then the Chukars took it a step further and decided to donate the proceeds from the recyclabes to the INL's Christmas for Families program. Which gives food and wrapped gifts to those in need around the holidays.

"We're collecting all of their recyclables. Those recyclables are worth a little bit of money. We take those, we process them and then we donate that money to a charity," said Anthony Bowden.

Pacific Steel pays out 45 cents for each pound of aluminum cans, which is roughly 30 cans.

On busy nights, like tonight, the picnic area here will have three to four hundred people. And they're expected to drink between seven and eight hundred cans. And if they recycle all of those, that means three to four hundred dollars for local charities.

You can also contribute outside of the ballpark. If you'd like to bring your cans from home, you can bring them to the Pacific Steel offices and tell them you'd like to donate your cans to this cause or several other charities.

Eating healthier

Several local school districts have changed their cafeteria menus to healthier fare. What about you? Are you eating healthier than you used to?

  • Yes. I've made big changes in my diet. More fruits and veggies and less fried foods. I feel much better as a result.
  • Sort of. I made changes in my diet for awhile, but it never seemed to do much good. I've gone back to the way I used to eat.
  • I haven't made any changes, but I've always eaten a very healthy diet.
  • No. I eat what I want to eat and I don't worry about it.
