New program attracts drop-outs to graduate
IDAHO FALLS - School District 93's new online class program, called the E-center has aided dozens of Eastern Idaho residents in getting their high school diploma. And the program is doing even more than that.

The E-Center opened it's doors in January and already this online class program is seeing results.

"There are kids in here that have completed their senior English papers that have never thought that they could do a 12 page paper. There are kids that come in here and they get excited about the class they are taking. For example the Government class, it's exciting to see a kid learn how to read a newspaper and get get excited about current events," said Taci Zollinger, an E-Center Aid.

Among the successes they have issues around 326 credits through the program in just 6 months. Forty students walked with their graduating class after making up credits through the online classes, and 8 people who dropped out of high school came back to get the diploma they didn't think was possible.

"Its really been a delight to me to see kids who didn't have any other options or didn't think that they could get something done come in here and graduate," said Zollinger.

"They can come in and they work at their own pace, they are able to when they are done with their credit they are done. And it's time on task," said Gordon Howard, E-Center Principal.

And in addition to aiding students to graduation the program helps those students who may be academically ineligible to participate in sports to become eligible for the fall season.

Brittney Tueller is a student who is using the E-Center to earn the credits she needs to play basketball next year."I'm really happy. I got one credit in a week and now I'm starting my second credit this second week," said Tueller.

The E-Center is open to all Eastern Idaho High School students and those up to the age of 21.

It's never to late to sign up, the next session of classes starts August 3rd. To get enrolled or to find out more information call Lincoln High School at 525-4445.
