There are still packets to make and badges to organize, but the Grand Teton Boy Scout Council Members and volunteers say they will be ready for this weekend's event.
Jamboral 2010, it's a scouting event that attracts thousands. There will be camping, wall climbing, tent building, and the famous Pinewood Derby Races. It's every boyscout's dream come true.
"A long time ago when I was about 13-years old myself, I went to one over in Central Idaho and I loved it," Rhett Garner, a local scoutmaster.
The Boy Scout Council is following their motto, "Be prepared."
"Everything from logistics of the buildings, arranging the fairgrounds, what buildings we're going to use, what activities we are going to have. There are traffic issues, security issues, everything, planning the prizes the trinkets that the boys are going to get when they are there. Food issues, there's a lot that goes into the planning," explained Brian Porter, Grand Teton Boy Scout Council Financial Director.
They've ordered 750 pizza's, 480 packages of hot dogs, 4,000 candy bars and snacks, and 75 portable bathrooms. They're planning to have more than 5,500 scouters and leaders from Eastern Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana. But this year's Jamboral will be a little different. It will include a celebration of 100 years of the Boy Scout Organization.
"There will be some history type events where they can work on some older merit badges that were in place when the Boy Scouts were first started, but have since been discontinued, but they brought them back for this year," Porter explained.
So with only a few days left, the council invites you to be prepared for fun, and also maybe some tough weather.
"It wouldn't be a Jamboral if we didn't get rained on. The last four Jamborals, we have either been snowed or rained on," Porter said.
But we all know scouts are prepared for anything. The Jamboral will be held in Blackfoot at the State Fairgrounds this Friday and Saturday. Participants will start arriving in Blackfoot Friday afternoon, so traffic may be heavy, then again early Saturday evening.
