Bannock County Jail contract employee accused of misusing prescription drugs

BANNOCK COUNTY - A Grace woman who worked as a contract employee for the Bannock County Jail is facing several felonies.

For the last year, Margaret Robinson Kirby has worked for Correctional Healthcare Management as a licensed nurse in the jail's medical unit.

She is now accused of misusing prescription drugs.

Kirby is charged with two counts of obtaining a controlled substance by misrepresentation, fraud, forgery, deception, or subterfuge, and two counts of adulterating a drug, or changing the drug for something different.

An investigation into the charges started about a month and a half ago, and because Kirby worked in the jail officers from outside agencies were brought in to investigate.

The jail has six people working in the medical unit.

The Sheriff is concerned with the growing number of prescription drug cases in Bannock County. Lorin Nielsen, Bannock County Sheriff said, "They're controlled chemicals for a reason. What might be good for one person, may be fatal for another."

Kirby is scheduled to appear in court on the charges on December 2.
