"How many of you would like to have a vote on this matter so that your voice and choice will be heard?"

Bonneville County residents stood as the majority against the current four-square miles of Ammon's proposed "area of impact.

"I have no desire to be an Ammon citizen," say Kathy Martin, a concerned Bonneville County homeowner.

The City of Ammon is looking to expand claiming territory from Hitt Road and 65th to Holmes and 97th. Currently it's Bonneville County land, but now Ammon wants the land because their new sewer line goes right through it.

"The only reason this proposal has come about is because of the joint agreement they have with Shelley and their sewer district," says Carey Martin, upset homeowner.

The fear is, If this area is deemed Ammon's area of impact, Ammon can annex any landowners into the city, and city laws require developments be hooked to the sewer line. Ammon says they have no intentions of doing that.

"Those of you who are in existing subdivisions and living on farms that remain as they are at the time the area of impact is agreed to, would see virtually no change except for urban time development across from your property. This is not forced annexation," says Ron Folson, Ammon Planning Director.

The city of Ammon says there has never been forced annexation and they don't plan to start now.

This week Gov. Otter signed a bill requiring Idaho to sue the federal government if Congress passes health care reform. What's your response to this?

  • It's great to see Idaho taking the lead on this. Someone has to stand up to what's happening in Washington.
  • We can't afford to pay for education in Idaho, but we're going to spend tax dollars to sue the feds? Ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
