IDAHO FALLS - After six hours of waiting in line, one local resident walks away with thousands of dollars in prizes.

It all happened on Monday morning's episode of "The Price is Right."

Eyewitness News Reporter Tommy Noel went to the viewing party and spoke with the big winner.

Before "The Price is Right" episode featuring Idaho Falls resident Stacey Christenson aired, she held her own little "Price is Right." Stacey teaches fitness classes at Apple Athletic Club and gave away some prizes, just like Drew Carey.

"They had to earn their prizes, just like 'The Price is Right.' Play games of chance, win or loss," says Stacey Christenson.

Then at 9am sharp, family, friends, and her students witnessed Stacey on national television. First round didn't go so well as one contestant pulled the evil Bid-One-Dollar-Higher trick. He should have known not to mess with an aerobics instructor. But eventually, Stacey made her way on stage and won a pair of scooters.

The winnings kept coming for Stacey. She picked up a thousand bucks in the Showcase Showdown.

"Stacey gets a dollar," says Drew Carey.

"When it came on a dollar, I was amazed," says Christenson.

But would her luck continue for the showcase?

"The whole entire thing was surreal. It was very difficult to think," says Christenson.

It would be difficult for anyone to guess the price of a canoe, a trip to Cayman Islands and a ski boat. But her loyalty and dedication to the show paid off.

"I've grown up watching 'The Price is Right' with my mom and I kept thinking this was her dream moment," says Christenson.

Being only $3,600 away from the actual retail price, Stacey is the big winner.

"Stacey! You're going to the Grand Cayman Islands," says Carey.

"I'm so happy I started crying," says Ed Jones, Stacey's dad.

"We're just happy and proud of her, winning 'The Price is Right,' but also because of the genuine person she is," says Wendy Jones, Stacey's mom.

By now, nearly everyone at the Apple is watching Idaho Falls' very own win a whole lot of prizes.

"When I won 'The Price is Right,' I was excited. But the support from all my friends and family is even more exciting to me," says Christenson.

Stacey picked up over $37,000 in prizes. Winners don't get their prizes until after the show airs, so after 3 months of waiting, any day now Stacey will enjoy her trip to the Cayman Islands and the scooters.

This week Gov. Otter signed a bill requiring Idaho to sue the federal government if Congress passes health care reform. What's your response to this?

  • It's great to see Idaho taking the lead on this. Someone has to stand up to what's happening in Washington.
  • We can't afford to pay for education in Idaho, but we're going to spend tax dollars to sue the feds? Ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
