MONTPELIER, ID - Nearly 25 people are without a job heading into this holiday season after a Southeastern Idaho restaurant goes up in flames.

Here's what it looked like around 10:30 Wednesday morning. This is Butch Cassidy's Restaurant and Saloon in Montpelier. The cause is not known yet, but the fire chief tells Eyewitness News that state fire investigators will be arriving Thursday morning along with insurance adjusters. However, some employees tell us they think it may have started in the attic and could have been electrical. Everyone got out safely.

Butch Cassidy's is basically a historical landmark in the Bear Lake Valley. We talked to the owner. He tells us the 4-thousand square foot building is a total loss. In fact, backhoes were demolishing the remains Wednesday afternoon.

He employs between 20 to 25 workers and does not know if he will rebuild at this point.

This week Gov. Otter signed a bill requiring Idaho to sue the federal government if Congress passes health care reform. What's your response to this?

  • It's great to see Idaho taking the lead on this. Someone has to stand up to what's happening in Washington.
  • We can't afford to pay for education in Idaho, but we're going to spend tax dollars to sue the feds? Ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
