IDAHO FALLS - A new scam costs one person 42-thousand dollars.
Bonneville County Detectives are asking you to be extra careful.
The sheriff's office has received several calls about the lottery scam that seems to be targeting our area.
The scammer claims you won 20-million-dollars.
But here's the catch... to get your winnings, they ask you to pay some fees included taxes.
The scam seems to be coming from overseas.
The F-B-I is aware of it and the best advice at this point is just watch out!

Idaho law allows state agencies to divert some state income tax refunds to pay legal obligations like court fees, child support, and sheriff's garnishments. Taxpayers whose refunds have been diverted have no legal recourse. What do you think of the law?

  • Times are tight. If the state needs the money, this approach is better than budget cuts, tax hikes, etc.
  • I'm entitled to the refund, and the state can just take it? Unfair and ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
