Halloween celebrations in Rexburg
By Steven Pope
Orchid and Alex Christensen dressed up like pirates this year for Halloween, but why the guitar you might ask?
"In his high school band, he dressed up like a pirate one year," said Orchid Christensen. And Instead of seeking out scary thrills, they went to a Latter-day Saint ward party. "with Halloween, a lot of people like to do creepy things, disgusting things. Things that might not be so much socially acceptable, but they think it is because it's Halloween. But a ward party is somewhere where it's warm and fun, and children," said Orchid. And even a costume show and tell. "It's making light of Halloween, instead of making Halloween this ugly and scary thing. It's making it this fun and joyful event," said Orchid. "it wouldn't be a ward party without a pumpkin contest. Since it's Swine Flu season, I decided to enter my own H1N1 pumpkin, throwup included." Also at this party some freshly cooked doughnuts. I couldn't help but eat a few of those myself. And while these young adults socialized, over at the Rex Center, about 1200 children trick or treated with local law enforcement and businesses. A few interesting costumes were roaming about the place, including this giant. And if you've seen Mall Cop, you'll appreciate this one... Paul Blart, segway included. I wish you all a Happy Halloween from Rexburg! |
