POCATELLO - Polls will be open Tuesday for several local elections.

In Pocatello, voters will have to decide whether or not to change the top post.

Brian Blad, a Pocatello resident of 35 years, is a new-comer to politics.

He decided to run to make some changes. Brian Blad, Pocatello Mayor Candidate said, "If there is something service to do I'm more than happy to jump in and do it."

His goal, if elected, is to stop the growth of unemployment.

He'll work specifically with small businesses, and others to keep them going.

Blad believes there is a growing exodus in Pocatello as companies close their doors and leave town. Blad said, "It shouldn't be that way. We should be able to retain those businesses, and I think we can with communication, working with them and City Hall. I think we can definitely turn that trend."

Roger Chase, the incumbent Mayor, is also eager to bring more businesses to the Gate City.

He'll work to make sure there are resources like parks, and outdoor activities to attract potential employers. Mayor Roger Chase said, "It not only makes it a great place for those of us that already live here, but also gives us a great tool to attract new businesses because they want to come to a community that is safe, a community that has good schools, a community that you can be a volunteer in."

Chase also believes his work as Mayor for the last eight years, and eight years on the City Council before that make him a good candidate. Chase said, "I think that's the number one thing I bring to the table is experience."

Along with choosing a new Mayor, voters in Pocatello will also decide who they want to fill three City Council seats.

The polls open at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
