Getting to know the candidates for Pocatello City Council Seat 4
By Wes Horrocks
POCATELLO - City Council candidates are gearing up for the November 3 election.
Craig Cooper considers himself semi-retired. He works a little with Cornelison-Henderson Funeral Home, helps with the harvest in Aberdeen, and may start taking classes at ISU. He is running for Pocatello City Council Seat 4 to make some changes. Craig Cooper, Pocatello City Council Seat 4 Candidate said, "We all talk about it. We all complain about it. Somebody has to step up, and so I did." Cooper is a former Bannock County Commissioner. He believes that experience will help him find ways to cut city spending. He also hopes to lower taxes and fees. Cooper said, "I don't come into any meetings with decisions already made. I listen and study and make decisions based upon what the facts are, and what I feel like is best for the area." Both Cooper, and incumbent Robert Richway, feel that it's critical to bring new jobs and businesses into Pocatello. Richway thinks that incentives may be a good solution to help. Robert Richway, Pocatello City Council Seat 4 Incumbent said, "Those packages may include tax incremental financing, it may include other incentives. So we need to be very creative." Richway has spent more than 10 years in public service for the city, and 30 working in various positions at what is now ON Semiconductor. If re-elected he will encourage more volunteerism, and try to strengthen ties with Idaho State University by getting more student interns at the city. Richway said, "I think I can help the city out, and I would like to continue to do so." Absentee and early voting is underway in Pocatello. Eyewitness News will continue to bring you more information about other candidates in the area over the next week and a half before you head to the polls. |
