Meet the Rexburg City Council Candidates
By Steven Pope
REXBURG - Every candidate was asked 5 questions ranging from parking permits, "the city took a step in the right direction, but they put their foot down in the wrong place," said Chris West.
"People around the campus like it," said Donna Benfield. "I know that the parking plan worked, " said Christopher Mann. Building a swimming pool, "I don't support the project as planned," said Lynn Betts. "I think the idea of using Urban Renewal funds to build a pool for Rexburg is a good idea," said Christopher Mann. "Urban renewal funds are tax dollars, it's not free money," said Kelly McKamey. Changes the Council should make if elected, "We do need to become more transparent," said Donna Benfield. "Accountability," responded Chris West. "Taking a pause, and being a little bit more careful," said Bruce Sutherland. Other questions included arts and recreation, which basically everyone supported, the change in law of raising business signs, and even the defining of "Due diligence." "Due diligence means to me, doing your homework," said Donna Benfield. "It's the full process from thinking, planning, looking, learning, deciding, making the commitment and living with it," said Lynn Betts. "Doing your homework," said Christopher Mann. "I think accountability sums it up," said Kelly McKamey. "You just about have to say Ditto," said Bruce Sutherland. Actually, there are two definitions: The care that a reasonable person exercises to avoid harm, and research and analysis of a company done in preparation for a business transaction. A second "Meet the Candidates" forum will be held on October 29th at 6pm A location for the event has not been designated yet. |
