IDAHO FALLS - Students at Longfellow Elementary School honored a local solider with a special flag raising ceremony.

Second and third graders corresponded with Lieutenant Ron James during his deployment in Iraq and Kuwait.

As a thank you, James had two American flags flown over the Al Asad base in Iraq. Those flags were then raised at the school Friday morning.

"I think they really enjoyed the correspondence and knowing they're keeping the spirits up and it kept me connected to the folks back home," says Lt. Ron James.

Lieutenant James has three kids currently attending Longfellow.

He received plenty of letters, cards, and care packages from his kids and the students during the ten month deployment.
