Here's a riddle... What is half a mile long and can save you time and money? The new Eagle Rock School pathway!

""We've been waiting for something like this for a long time and kids have had to walk through the mud and snow and this is just a great thing," says the Eagle Rock Junior High School Student Body President, Caleb Cook.

30 minutes after classes started at Eagle Rock Junior High School- students, the mayor, and community organizations, like the Bonneville Metropolitan Planning and Community Pathways, all dedicated this pathway as part of International Walk to School Day.

"It's connecting schools and communities together so that kids can walk," says Bonneville Metropolitan Planning organization coordinator, Lisa Farris.

The route starts at Bellin and Pancheri Drive and runs down to the front of Eagle Rock Junior High School.

This pathway is ten feet wide, which is just comfortable enough for both cyclists and pedestrians. The mayor tells me he's planning on expanding it all the way down to the greenbelt.

"We are hoping to put some safe routes along the bridge and hopefully we can be able to tie in with this pathway right here so citizens on the West side of the community will be able to have access right down to the greenbelt and then enjoy the entire greenbelt route," says Idaho Falls Mayor, Jared Fuhriman.

Parents used to be concerned about kids walking to class, but now there are less worries.

Our main objective is to make sure the students that are coming to and from school are going to be safe and now we have this pathway that will definitely help to enhance that," added the Mayor.

After 2 years of paperwork and 30 days of construction, kids are taking advantage of the new pathway, and can't wait to ride it from school down to the River.
