T.E.A. Party in Idaho Falls
By Steven Pope
IDAHO FALLS - The T.E.A. Party was frustrated with the non-patriotic spirit of the celebration on Memorial Drive.
"I'm losing my country, it's not going to be the same country for my children as it was for me," said Andy Elliot, the event organizer. Yet, everybody is celebrating the mark of our independence. On Memorial Drive multiple bands were playing along the street, and they were so loud, the Tea Party's speakers couldn't be heard. "It destroys the spirit of the fourth of july, they should be playing patriotic music," said Robert Gorgogione, a Taxed Enough Already Party speaker. A valid point from one of the speakers, who is one of many involved in continuing tea parties. "The purpose of this should be to celebrate the birth our nation," said Gorgogione. No one through anything into the river at this Tea Party, instead they handed out copies of the Constitution, allowed people to place their own John Handcock on a Declaration of Independence, and sign post cards to send to our legislators with a message. "We have got to let our federal government know we are really fed up. We wanted changed but not this kind of change," said Elliott. But you might be wondering, why continue having tea parties? "Those tea parties, rallied the people of the country. Not just one city, in Boston, but throughout the colonies of that time," said Dr. Don Schanz who has a PHD in Constitutional Law. These grass root movements will continue to take place across the nation, even in Idaho Falls. |
