Some Idaho Falls firefighters held a contest for District 91 kids to get them excited about reading.

Tommy Noel was with one of the winners as they got a very special ride to school.

"She's a pretty good sister," says Graydon Mothersill.

Graydon is praising his sister Jessica and her special day.

"She's gonna hop on a fire truck to school," says Graydon.

It's all part of the Blazing a Trail for Literacy program, put on by the Idaho Falls Fire Department.

"She read over a thousand books," says Graydon.

Well, not quite...

"Over a thousand minutes," says Graydon.

You're getting warmer Graydon. Jessica actually read 9,872 minutes over a period of two months. That's about 164 hours or nearly 7 days.

"Oh I love reading," says Jessica Mothersill.

"I saw her reading a lot, but didn't think it would come to this," says Laura Adams, Jessica's Mom.

This, being a ride to school on a fire truck.

"Yeah! I was way proud. I had to brag to all my friends," says Laura.

On board, Jessica was all smiles and prefers this ride as opposed to the big yellow bus.

This is the first year of the firefighters program and hope to do it again next year.

At school, firefighters gave a quick tour of the truck and all its gadgets.

On her way to class, Jessica and her neat ride were definitely the center of attention.

"That was so cool," says Jessica's friend.
"Thank you," replies Jessica.

And thank you firefighters for saving lives, and now, encouraging kids like Jessica to read.

"I am very proud of her," says Laura.

Not only did Jessica read the most minutes at her school, Theresa Bunker, she also read the most minutes for the entire school district.

She beat the runner up by 3,000 minutes!
