Shutter scam?

IDAHO FALLS - "Well, I had a string break on one of my pleated blinds," says Jerry Sinkovec, concerned consumer.

And that's where the whole thing started. Sundance shutters in Idaho Falls said they could fix the $200 blinds. So Sinkovec took them in. But after weeks of not seeing them, he called inquiring. No one answered.

"All of a sudden his phone number was disconnected. This guy just disappeared," says Sinkovec.

Left without his blinds, Sinkovec turned to the corporate office in Utah.

"They advised me they didn't have any paperwork on it. I said, well, he didn't give me any paperwork," says Sinkovec.

That's exactly the problem. I called the company and got the same answer. No proof, no help. The company did admit to having problems with the representative here but that man has since vanished.

"I just want my blinds back," says Sinkovec.

But is there anything he can do? I went to the Better Business Bureau for answers. The company has an "unsatisfactory" rating from when they were in business, but not much that can be done now.

"Consumers should always try to get in writing terms, conditions, dropping off a product. Get a receipt, some sort of verification because if it's not in writing, if you have no documentation, you really have no options," says Donna Oe, Better Business Bureau.
