UCON - A man was doing some yard work when things got out of control.

He was out burning some weeds in a pit when suddenly there was an explosion. His wife thinks he may have put a little too much gas, on top of the weeds. She heard a loud bang and yelling, then came outside to find her husband badly hurt.

Because of the amount of skin he was loosing, we thought maybe he had blown his fingers off," says Kerri Mangum. "And he's someone I've been with for 21 and a half years, and I'm not ready to get rid of him yet."

Mangum was immediately taken to EIRMC, he has 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree burns. They are mostly on his arms and a little bit on his face.

He was also complaining, that he was having trouble breathing.
