Idaho Kite Festival Cancelled

POCATELLO - Brendan Vaughn arrived at the park today ready to fly his kite for the Idaho Kite Festival, but when he got there he just found an empty field.

"I thought I came on the wrong day," said Vaughn.

But Vaughn soon realized it wasn't the wrong day.

"I just started flying my kite and then figured it was cancelled."

Unfortunately for him, it was cancelled. Idaho Kite Festival organizer Micki Kamagawi received word that they wouldn't be able to fly today.

"The district had not received the proper paperwork for our liability insurance. We have a million dollar liability insurance through American Kite Flyers Assocation because they sanction our event. We were well insured but the district did not have the paperwork so they asked us not use Tyhee School," said Kamagawi.

Since they didn't have the proper paperwork the festival was in jeopardy of not flying at all this weekend, but they were determined to fly their kites.

"Well we had no plan B for Sunday if we didn't have Tyhee School so we were able to use the church parking lot this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday," said Kamagawi.

With such great weather today neither Brendan nor Miki could resist flying anyway.

"You know if there's a good breeze, you have to put all your kites in the sky, it's irresistable to try it, said Kamagawi.
