Businesses Now Have Help To Get Online
By Wes Horrocks
POCATELLO - Business owners in Southeast Idaho are getting some help when it comes to going online thanks to Idaho State University.
The new E-commerce Institute will not only teach people how to add online services to an existing business but it can also help them learn how to start an online company. E-commerce has steadily grown over the last several years with online retail sales now topping $130-billion. That's money that could easily be spent right here in Southeastern Idaho. Joseph Fleishman, Director of Workforce Training said, "The web is the future. It is a distribution sysytem of not only information, but wealth of goods and services. Taking advantage of it is something any business can do, and smart ones ought to." In the class students will learn how to create and post a website online, along with how to keep it up-to-date. And with more than one-billion people using the internet, that could mean a lot of new customers for local businesses. Matt Hunter, Executive Director of the Greater Pocatello Chamber of Commerce said, "Customers will continue to shop more and more online, and businesses need to reach out and get them there." The class is being offered by Workforce Training at ISU. Their goal is to make sure that even those with no computer experience will be able to leave the class with a functioning website. Fleishman said, "We're here to make it doable, to make it easier, to make it understandable. We want those businesses out there that don't have that background. We're prepared for them. We're educators-that's what we do." Once students are out of the class, teachers at Workforce Training will still be available to answer questions or fix problems with the websites. Classes start on September 2nd and are held Tuesday through Thursday afternoons for 12 weeks. It costs about $700 altogether. If you have any questions or want to register you can contact Workforce Training at (208) 282-3372. |
