ONLY ON 3: 4-Month Old Baby Survives Skull Fractures and Abuse
By Jennifer McGraw
We told you last night about a 4-month old baby girl who is fighting for her life at Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City.
Today her mother was in court fighting for custody of that baby and her two other young children. The family was overwhelmed today. This is a situation that has many loose ends and nobody is sure who to blame. "She was crying, wouldn't stop crying so they took her over to my mother's checked her over and rushed her right to the hospital," said Ranea Haley, the aunt of the 4-month old. That's where it all started. The grandmother tells me the baby was badly hurt and the only people in the house were the baby's mother's boyfriend and the mother's two younger kids. The 4-month old was checked out at EIRMC then air-lifted to Salt lake City. The grandmother has confirmed the baby suffered two skull fractures and a possible broken collar bone, but she says she doesn't know what happened...the family doesn't believe this was an accident. "They need to get the person who did it, it could happen to someone else in this time that he is out," said Ranea. "They think who did this is hiding out right now," said Brenda Haley, the great grandmother. A custody case was held today for the baby's mother. Nineteen year old Melanie Haley lost temporary custody of her three young kids. The family believes it was the right thing. "I mean with those kids being around drugs and the boyfriend she hangs out with needs to stop and I'm glad the kids got taken away. It's not a good thing for our family. But it's just going to be better for them in the long run, it'll be better," said Brandy Castellanos, Melanie's cousin. |
