UPDATE: Drowning Victim's Body Found
By Sarah Schwabe
Eyewitness News has learned that the drowning victim's body has been found in the Snake River. The body was found in the protective grates in downstream, near the center of town.
The victim is a 41 year old male who was fishing with friends when they all got dumped from their boat near the Low Head Diversion Dam. Three were able to make it to shore, but one did not. The original call came in last night round 6:50 from a fisherman at Freeman Park. I spoke with the eyewitness who made the 911 call but did not want to go on camera. He did describe for me what he saw. "Spotted a red cooler and then about a minute later he says there's a body . I thought he was kidding and sure enough there he was. I hopped on the phone and dialed 911." The eyewitness ran down the river to keep a visual on the body for the police who arrived pretty quickly. Then just North or John Hole Bridge, the body "caught in one of the eddies and just sank down." The Bonneville County Search and Rescue Team searched last night until about 11, and then resumed their efforts this morning. Jefferson County and Fish and Game are aiding in the search. We will have more on this story coming up at noon. |
