Groups Come Together for Greenbelt Cleanup

Throughout yesterday, the downtown and Greenbelt area saw thousands of people walking through the streets and grass regions celebrating the 4th.
Today, the area is cleared out, but the remnants of those people still remain in the thousands of pounds of trash left behind.
The city of Idaho Falls staff and seasonal employees, along with countless volunteers and teens doing community service, were busy all morning cleaning up what everyone else left behind.
Clint Walrath, CLen Up Drew: "I kind of expected it to be this bad I guess. It's just kinda surprising how wasteful some people are."
The groups started the clean up efforts at eight o'clock this morning and say it'll take them a good four to six hours to clean up all the garbage..with one idea in mind for the greenbelt and its surrounding area.
Lawrence Batcheller, Clean Up Crew: "Green again, and a clean downtown."
City officials did say that numerous trash cans were filled and that many did their part in cleaning up the area. But those who did help, are over shadowed by what many left for others.
Walrath: "It's kind of disappointing really..how people can just be so wasteful. Somebody else will pick it up for them I guess is their attitude."
Volunteers are always appreciated and welcomed to help. There's nothing formal that needs to be done, so you can just head down at anytime to help do your part in keeping the Greenbelt clean.
