Update: Armed Robbery; Suspect on the Loose
By Rick Montañez
Police are searching for an armed man, they say robbed a drug store Thursday morning. Channel 3 Eyewitness News was the only station on the scene this morning just moments after the call came in. We have video of the crime scene you will see only on Eyewitness News.
Eyewitness News arrived on scene around 9:30, just minutes after the suspect came to the store near the corner of Coronado and Channing Way. Police say he stormed into the store, but he didn't want money, he was after things like Hydrocodone and Oxycontin. Capt. Ken Brown, IFFP: What was demanded was some type of narcotics drugs. Rick: Did he demand money? Ken: No. Police would not tell me if the suspect actually got away with the drugs, but so far he has gotten away. "Right now, he's still out, he's still dangerous," says Brown. After police cleared the crime scene, I went to the Prescription Center to talk to the workers, but they declined to go on camera. The owner issued this statement to Channel 3 Eyewitness News, he says: "Our primary concern is for our staff involved in the incident...our interest is cooperating with law enforcement fully. Our protocols for handling this type of situation were followed exactly, resulting in a quick and appropriate response by staff," says Gary Pullen, owner of the Prescription Center. The suspect is described as a white male 25-30 years old, with an average build. He was wearing sunglasses, a bandana and a black hoodie with the word heartland on it. Police also say his pants had a red stripe going down the leg. Witnesses say he ran across the street after the robbery and jumped on a motorcycle and headed north on Channing way toward 17th street. "Its not the normal street bike type of motorcycle. And enduro means you can ride them on the street or off the street," says Brown. Police wouldn't comment on if the suspect was intoxicated at the time, but again he is armed and dangerous. And, if you do recognize this man, call your local police department or 911. |
