A Bingham County man who raped a five-year-old girl over 20 years ago will spend the next 15 years in prison.

District Judge Darren Simpson sentenced Leslie Wilde, to a minimum of 15 years and a maximum of 35 years in prison.

This is a much more serious sentence in comparison to the defense's request for just probation.

Eyewitness news talked to the now 28-year-old victim, who is happy with today's sentence.

"For 23 years I've been carrying this heavy burden on my shoulders, and the judge sentenced him today to 15 years and it's like it's been lifted," says the victim.

The victim did ask us to keep her identity private.

Wilde pleaded guilty to one count of rape as part of a plea deal. In exchange, the state dropped two other charges of rape.

This week Gov. Otter signed a bill requiring Idaho to sue the federal government if Congress passes health care reform. What's your response to this?

  • It's great to see Idaho taking the lead on this. Someone has to stand up to what's happening in Washington.
  • We can't afford to pay for education in Idaho, but we're going to spend tax dollars to sue the feds? Ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
