Possible Drowning at Massacre Rocks State Park

Officers in Power County, spent most of the day looking for a young man who may have drown at Massacre Rocks State Park yesterday.

Witnesses say 17 year-old Kord Peterson was cliff-jumping, and swimming with a group of friends when he suddenly disappeared under the water.

Several of Peterson's friends tried to rescue him from the water but were unsuccessful. They told Eyewitness News that officers could have attempted a rescue sooner, but were more concerned with reports of underage drinking. Jerret Johnson, an eyewitness said, "They had a few people out there searching on skis, on jet skis and everything, but they just didn't really seem like they were trying too hard for him. Just more worried about the kids that were underage."

We called the Power County Sheriff's Office tonight to get an update on the search, and answers to those concerns from Peterson's friends but they are unavailable for comment until tomorrow morning.

This week Gov. Otter signed a bill requiring Idaho to sue the federal government if Congress passes health care reform. What's your response to this?

  • It's great to see Idaho taking the lead on this. Someone has to stand up to what's happening in Washington.
  • We can't afford to pay for education in Idaho, but we're going to spend tax dollars to sue the feds? Ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
