LDS Church Taking Position On Gay Marriage

Tools

By Todd Kunz

Leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will be asking church members in California to join the effort to amend the state's constitution...defining marriage as being between a man and a woman.

A letter sent to Mormon bishops June 20th and signed by Church President Thomas S. Monson and his counselors calls upon Mormons to donate "means and time" to the ballot measure.

A note on the letter says it should be read during church services June 29th, but it has been published on several Internet websites already.

Scott Trotter, a spokesman for the Church, says the letter is authentic, but declined to comment with any details.
