Madison Ambulance Rates Going Up

Madison Ambulance Rates Going Up

By Nate Eaton

High gas prices are forcing the Madison County Ambulance service to raise its rates.

In about a month, fees will go up three percent. That means the county base rate will jump from five hundred fifty dollars to five hundred sixty seven dollars.

Mikel Walker, Madison EMS Chief: "We don't make a profit. Between the taxing district and the revenues, we're able to keep afloat but our patient revenues account for about 50 percent of our budget."

The rising cost of latex and other equipment is being factored into the new ambulance fees.
