String of Burglaries

The Bonneville County Sheriff's Office is investigating a string of burglaries that occurred throughout the county over the weekend.

The common denominator with all of them is a broken lock.
In some cases the thieves broke off locked door knobs, in other they broke off padlocks.

The Sheriff's Office says they've never seen a case like this before, and that whoever is behind them knows what they are doing.

Six different businesses in total were targeted. They range from a gymnastics studio to a construction site.

"They were able to get inside three businesses and then there were were where they broke the door knobs off but weren't able to get inside the business," says Sgt. Doug Metcalf.

The owners of Builders Choice Framing returned to a construction sight in Ammon on Monday to find the lock on their trailer broken and over three thousand dollars in goods stolen.

Police say the same people are likely behind all the burglaries..

While they don't know who that is, they do know more than one person was involved.

"They had planned it out and had been checking the businesses out and seeing where the good entry points," says Metcalf.

With that information I went to Mel's Lock and Key and asked what we could do to protect our homes and businesses from a similar break in.

"The only thing I can recommend is make sure you have a good dead bolt and make sure your door knob is a decent door knob, its not an old antique. And make sure you lock both of them," says Locksmith Keith Ramirez.

The businesses that weren't broken into did have deadbolts or some form of extra security on their doors.

At this time the Sheriff's Office does not have any suspects, and are asking anyone with any information to please call.

The number for crime stoppers is 522-1983.
