New Utah Area Code

Tools

By Todd Kunz

If you have family in friends in Utah, you will soon have to dial a new area code.

Qwest Communications says beginning June 1, Utah phoners will have to dial 10-digits to make local calls all because of population growth.

However, rather than splitting the state, the decision was made to introduce the new area code as an overlay. This means people currently assigned an 801 can keep it and still get an 801 number for any additional lines such as a fax machine, but when a new phone is assigned it gets the new 385 area code.

This week Gov. Otter signed a bill requiring Idaho to sue the federal government if Congress passes health care reform. What's your response to this?

  • It's great to see Idaho taking the lead on this. Someone has to stand up to what's happening in Washington.
  • We can't afford to pay for education in Idaho, but we're going to spend tax dollars to sue the feds? Ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
