Growth in one of Idaho's fastest growing counties may be on hold for a while after an administrator suddenly resigns.

Kurt Hibbert has worked as Teton County's Planning and Building administrator for about two years. Now, his office is empty and he's done with his job.

The resignation comes as the Planning and Building department is swamped with all sorts of different projects, but both the county and Hibbert say everyone is still on good terms.

Kurt Hibbert, Former Planning and Building Administrator: "It's just kind of a mutually agreed upon decision with the commissioners. We discussed it for a period of time and decided that it would be in the best interest of the county."

Hibbert gave a letter of resignation to county commissioners who held a meeting Friday morning to announce the change.

Larry Young, Teton Co. Commissioner: "I just want to acknowledge that Kurt did do a lot of great things for this county."

Alice Stevenson, Teton Co. Commissioner: "He brought a lot of ideas to us. He's had tremendous energy."

That energy is what helped Hibbert make him through a challenging two years in one of the states fastest growing counties.

Hibbert: "We survived a moratorium and a recall election but deeper than that we've implemented from the ground up the GIS department. We've actually been able to implement an electronic permit system."

Some county employees believe commissioners forced Hibbert to resign but commissioner Larry Young says it was a mutual agreement between the two parties and there's no hard feelings.

Hibbert says he does love the time he worked for the county and looks forward to new challenges in Eastern Idaho.

Hibbert: "Planning's a pretty high priority for most of the jurisdictions and that makes a good environment for planning."

An interim planning and building administrator has been appointed in Teton County.

Lorie Grebe will serve in the position for three months or until a new director is found.
