At the Idaho Falls public library an expert demonstrated CPR.

Larry Friedman: "Twenty-eight, 29, 30. And then we give them two breaths."

There were lectures and slide presentations on flu prevention.
Information creating fire escape plans and drilling for a fire.

Cheryl Simonds: "Teaching the children to crawl on the floor especially if there's smoke, because 75 percent of deaths in fires are from smoke inhalation."

And a variety of emergency kits on display for the public to see and purchase.

Diane Lewis: "Everyone needs to have a first aid kit that they can carry in their car and also a road hazard kit because of living in Idaho."

Also have a 72-hour kit ready in your home in case of a flood or other disaster.

In an emergency it may be days until authorities can implement a disaster plan.

Larry Friedman: "When the event happens it's what you and I have in our homes, what we have ready to go right then that is going to sustain us through the event."

In the kit you'll want things like food, water, a first aid kit, bedding and a flashlight.

The Red Cross sells first aid and 72 hour kits for between 25 and 80 dollars.

Diane Lewis: "It's cheaper to purchase one that's already been put together rather than going out and buying the items to put one together yourself.

Whether you buy one or put it together yourself make sure it's ready and easy to get to in an emergency.
