The Lava Hot Springs fire department has been overseen by 3 commissioners.Recently 2 of the 3 stepped down hoping to leave the spots vacant for others interested in the position.
"My reason for leaving was for someone new to take the job."
When no one stepped up to fill Irick's shoes, there were fears of the department going under. This would leave the areas surrounding the city of Lava Hot Springs with no fire fighters.
"Even if we can't save your house...we can still save your neighbor's house."
Irick decided to step up and once again commit to his old post for a 4 year term.
Already a commissioner for 16 years, he says he's seen many ups and downs.
"I've seen some heart ache and some good feedback. It's always nice to hear a compliment or get a pat on the back."
