This story just gets more and more strange.
Yesterday we told you the Bonneville County Sheriff's Office had been looking for the wrong guy, involved in the drive by shooting in Ammon this past weekend.
For the last few days police were looking for Fabian Salinas, the person they thought was the drive by shooter.
But it turns out Salinas has been at the Cottonwood prison this entire time, in fact, he wont be out for another four years.

It's ironic, Fabian Salinas, is sitting in jail for a prior drive by shooting charge. And somehow he got accused of this weekends drive by.
So the question is, who was the drive by shooter and why were police looking for the wrong guy in the first place.

Doug Metcalf, Bonneville County Sheriff's Office:"A lot of people really don't know people last name for real.. Is somebody using somebody else's last name are people confused on name? It does happen."

Police say that was the name they were given.
So, I showed Carla Crazythunder, Salinas' mug shot.

Araksya Karapetyan:"Look at this picture and tell me if that's the person you remember seeing."
Carla Crazythunder, homeowner: "No."
"I've never seen this person before."
"All I said was his name is Fabian and I didn't know otherwise."
"I didn't have a last name. I had never seen the kid before."

How is this possible?
Well the Sheriff's office says they went with the information they got.

Metcalf: "Basically the initial report, we interview victims and witnesses, at the scene and we were give the name Fabian Salinas. "

But Crazythunder insists she only gave the first name.

Crazythunder:"I just know his name is Fabian."
"When I saw it on the news it didn't look like the guy at all."

Metcalf:"We received information and phone calls, tips that he is in prison. Checked and confirmed that he was."

Crazythunder:"I assume they ran Fabian and came up with a name that fit the profile."

So who was the drive by shooter then.

Crazythunder:"He's short, he's brown, he's Mexican."

Now the Sheriff's office is working on small leads.
They' re still looking for a dark gray or silver colored Acura with the driver side window smashed in.
And the Crazythunders say they have requested an officer to come by with photos of potential suspects, so they can help find a match.
