With the unemployment rate so low in Idaho Falls, some employers are struggling to find people to fill their open positions. And with so many businesses hiring, people seem to be jumping from job to job looking for better opportunities. But that creates a problem itself.
Its kind of a win win catch 22 situation, people are working, leaving unemployment low, but if you take a drive through places like downtown or flip through the paper, you'll see businesses are looking for your help.
"I think whenever you have a low unemployment rate that probably service industries do suffer."
Places like the Defining Line Salon are part of the service industry, that do suffer.
"Its actually been really difficult, we have people that are interested, there are so many different opportunities for them, sometimes people come in with more than one opportunity right at their fingertips."
Other Businesses like Scotty's Drive Thru also feel the pinch, when employees know they can find work elsewhere.
"So we do have people that come but since there are so many other opportunities they don't take the job super seriously."
"They come in and they go out and it's the revolving door thing and that's really difficult to try and build a successful company."
Service industries aren't alone, glancing through the help wanted ads, you see plenty of jobs for office and clerical work, and it seems the medical industry is always looking for help. But with Idaho ranking as the 4th fastest growing state, more people are coming into town looking for work.
"As long as you have people employed you have people renting and people buying houses and vehicles or maybe better vehicles."
Having people working and spending money is always good for the economy. But like we said the low unemployment creates its own problems, even for businesses like Channel 3, we still have positions we're trying to fill ourselves.
