A husband is without his wife and three kids under four years old are without their mother this Thanksgiving weekend.

23 year old Tanna Hatch was killed in a car accident on Highway 33 near Tetonia Tuesday night.

Now the Hatch family is remembering the mother of Wyatt, Brooke, and Tegan and the wife of Hank Jr. The family who will never look at Thanksgiving the same after a tragic accident took the life of their Tanna.

Shawnee Hatch, Tanna's Sister-in-Law: "She just had the most beautiful smile I've ever seen. i just can't get her smile out of my head. You still wait for that door to open and Tanna to walk in and say I'm here for my kids."

Shawnee Hatch's brother Hank married Tanna five years ago. Tuesday night, Shawnee was in her kitchen when she heard on a scanner there had been a bad accident involving a mother and three young kids.

Hatch: "I just heard some parts and pieces and I finally called because I just had a bad feeling."

That bad feeling was confirmed when Shawnee learned Tanna had been killed...two days before Thanksgiving.

Hatch: "She was always happy. I loved her smile. She had the most beautiful smile I've ever seen on anybody and when she would talk, you could just see she made everybody happy. She was so good with her kids and everybody else's kids."

Now, in his twenties and with no health insurance, Hank is left a widower to care for a four year old, a two year old, and a seven month old baby.

Hatch: "There will be medical bills and funeral costs."

While the family believes Tanna is still with them and they'll see her again someday, they have a message for everyone.

Hatch: "When you talk to that person on the phone, make sure you tell them that you love them every time no matter what. Let you kids know every day how much you love them because you might not get the second chance."

Tanna and Hank's four year old, Wyatt, broke his leg. He is in a wheelchair and is expected to recover. The to other two kids are doing okay.

As mentioned, the family has no health insurance and would appreciate financial help from anyone. A trust fund has been set up at Wells Fargo bank. You can make donations at any location to the Tanna Hatch memorial fund. The family says they've appreciated everyone's help during this hard time.

This week Gov. Otter signed a bill requiring Idaho to sue the federal government if Congress passes health care reform. What's your response to this?

  • It's great to see Idaho taking the lead on this. Someone has to stand up to what's happening in Washington.
  • We can't afford to pay for education in Idaho, but we're going to spend tax dollars to sue the feds? Ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
