Local residents rolled up their sleeves and got down to work today, cleaning up the aftermath of yesterday's storm. While the piles of debris seemed daunting, residents are counting their lucky stars, it wasn't worse. Channel 3 Eyewitness News Reporter Sarah Schwabe has the story.

Armed with garbage bags and determination, these Idaho Falls residents are tackling piles of fallen branches, hoping to reclaim their lawns and sidewalks.

"We're cleaning up the mess we got from the snow. We're cleaning up the fence where branches fell," says Idaho Falls resident, David Siemering.

Siemering and his family have been at it all morning, still in shock from yesterday's blast of winter weather.

"Winter is here early, that's for sure," says Siemering.

"What an end to the summer, to go from almost summer to winter in one day," says Al Glissendorf.

Across the street, Glissendorf is also hard at work, breaking down branches around his rental property.

"Picking them up, bundling them up, setting them out for the city to pick up and clean, and whatever they won't haul away I'll have to get my pickup truck involved," says Glissendorf.

Both neighbors anticipate hours of work ahead, but are grateful this is the worst of it.

"I'm glad it's not worse than it is," says Glissendorf.

As a reminder the landfill will be closed on Monday for Columbus Day.

Wind Farms

The wind turbines lining the foothills east of Idaho Falls are getting a lot of attention. What do you think about the wind farms?

  • They're too close to residential areas and they're lowering property values. They're ruining the view. Build them somewhere else!
  • They provide clean energy, and they generate local jobs and tax revenue. They're the wave of the future. Welcome to town!
  • Not sure.
