Hotel cleaning

REXBURG - The themed suits at AmericInn all had something to offer.

A futuristic sink in Planet 10.

"You're steering a space ship and washing your hands at the same time," says Justine.

A waterfall in the Emerald Lagoon and a big spot to take a dip and relax in the Gem of the Orient.

"You can swim in it," she says.

But they all had something I wasn't looking for. They were all spotless. So we headed to the Kilimanjaro suit to clean up the mess.

"Housekeeping."

"You have to be really open minded to go in there and just think it's your job and just do it," says AmericInn housekeeper Jessica Hook.

The previous guests did a pretty good job keeping it clean but we first had to pick up and toss out any garbage left behind.

"Just toss them? Should we take the garbage with us around?" asks Justine.

"You can, I usually do that," says Jessica.

"Let's go."

After putting on gloves as a precaution, we stripped the bed and added clean sheets.

"Wait what do we tuck it into?" asks Justine.

Then the real grunt work began.

"It doesn't look too bad," says Hook.

"It's not a dirty one so I'm happy," says Justine.

And it's work not too many can handle.

"It's hard to find people who actually stick with doing housekeeping," says Hook.

And with summertime here...

"Since were practically full all the time 66 rooms we need all the help we can get," says Hook.

But I stuck it out. Scrubbing floors, the shower....

"Phew there's a lot of cleaner in here."

Cleaning up the jaccuzzi and vaccuuming the floor.

"Is that good? That is tough carpet to vacuum on."

It took about an hour to get everything done and that's with jessica leading the way, but once on your own, you've got to really put it in gear.

"We have a half hour for each room, except theme rooms we have 45 minutes.

And spending all day cleaning may leave you not wanting to take the work with you once off the clock.

"I usually don't do a lot of cleaning at home," says Hook.

This week Gov. Otter signed a bill requiring Idaho to sue the federal government if Congress passes health care reform. What's your response to this?

  • It's great to see Idaho taking the lead on this. Someone has to stand up to what's happening in Washington.
  • We can't afford to pay for education in Idaho, but we're going to spend tax dollars to sue the feds? Ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
