Tips on saving money part 2
By Anthony Congi
IDAHO FALLS - We all probably think of the YMCA as a place to work out, but did you know they offer child care and after school programs? And depending on your income, the cost can be very low.
"The YMCA is a community organization, it's available for everyone. It doesn't matter what they're income level is. So everyone of our programs; whater it's afterschool, resident camp, and our new item are our stone walls, is really a sliding scale fee," says YMCA CEO, Michael Bodenhausen. He continues, "The top level is 60 dollars and from there it goes down even for an individual it can be as low as ten dollars a month. It just really depends on where they are on the income level." That even goes for gym memberships. But what if you've found you can't afford to go to the gym? "I'm here with Austin Knight. He's a personal Trainer here at World's Gym, so Austin, when it come to fitness, not everyone can maybe afford a gym membership. What do you recommend to some of those people?" "My main recommendation for those that feel they can't afford a gym membership is, I would actually encourage them to reevaluate," says Knight. "If a person has reevaluated their expenses and they absolutely cannot afford a gym membership, then we're gonna need to get a little bit creative. I'm gonna suggest that we go to the park, maybe spend some time warming up, doing some running, some calisthenics type stuff, use the jungle gym, we're gonna do some pull ups, let's do some squats, some lunges, do the pushups, sit ups, really all of the basics of physical fitness," says Knight. Even when we're trying to save, it still seems like there's things we have to pick up from the mall. But you might be able to find better deals at home. Before you go to any store and shop, you should compare prices first online because there's usually some good deals out there. One site that I highly recommend is overstock.com. The Salt Lake based company is just like a mall, but you don't have to leave home. The company buys in large and is able to sell everything from watches, books, sporting goods and even bedding at pretty low prices. Like this down comforter, regular 215 bucks, you can buy it here for 63. So just spend a little time and click around, you never know what you might find. And at the end of a hard day on the job, why not wind down with one of your favorite movies? You've probably heard of Netflix, but did you know, a 9 dollar a month membership gets you their online, on-demand movies from your computer? Forget ten bucks each at the theater and five dollar rentals. You literally have thousands of movies you can pick form right in the comfort of your own home; and you can watch them anytime you want.Popcorn's cheap at home too. And finally, In about a month, the boys of summer will be returning to Idaho Falls and Melaleuca Field for another summer of Chuckars baseball. And despite tough times for everyone, it's still cheap to go to the only pro ball game in south east idaho "General ticket for an adult, 6 dollars and 50 cents. Kids and seniors, 5. With a number of selected dates where there's two for one offers, there's promotional tickets out there periodically. We have our Junior Chuckars Club where a kid 12 and under can come to ten games for 15 dollars," says Chuckars General Manager, Kevin Greene. And it's a good time Compared that to any other night a family tries to go out "You could easily spend a hundred dollars for a dinner going out but I would say a family of four can have a really nice night out here for around 40 or 50 bucks," says Greene. |
