Tips on saving money part 1
By Anthony Congi
IDAHO FALLS - When it comes to saving money, there's things all of us can do, but do you even know the ways to do it?
Here's a list of things to maybe help you out. Saving money in utilities can easily be done. A quick fix is to buy weather stripping for your house. "People are going to start their air conditioners up. It's starting to get warm finally. And therefore, putting that weather stripping up is going to keep in the cool air that they're trying to produce and so it will keep down the costs of your cooling and of course during the winter months again, you're going to keep up the heat as well. So you'll save money overall in the long run with weather stripping," explains Billy Skinner, Lowe's Sales Manager. He adds, "Some people it will save from a couple of dollars all the way to hundreds of dollars depending on how many windows or doors you have in your home or how many need to be weather stripped at that time." "So litterally, these things pay for themselves relatively fast," I asked him? "Oh absolutely," he replied. Besides your house, your car is probably one of the things that you use the most. I stopped by Oswalds in Idaho Falls To find out ways to save when it comes to your vehicle. "Be proactive would be the best way. Squeaks and rattles turn into thumps and grinds. People are letting them go and it just costs more the longer you wait.Keep your alignment in check, tires pressures save on gas mileage, tune ups," says Oswald's Sales Manager, Tim Jensen. Seems pretty basic, but if we all did that, you might be surprised how much you can save overall. "You can probably cut your costs down by about one third to half," says Jensen. One of all of our biggest expenses everyday is buying food, and people are getting creative trying to save. With grocery costs as high as they are, a lot more people are turning to growing their own vegetables and herbs. Once you buy all the things you need for your own personal garden, it's pretty cheap to grow on your own. "Overall it is," says Town and Country Manager, Drew French. "Compared to going to the grocery store, yes it is. You can come here, you can get cole crops, you can get tomatoes, onions, peppers, you can get all that stuff right here plus you get the enjoyment of working and putting your hands in the soil and working with your family. And so the savings are not just in a dollar value but there's also that family connection." When it comes to clothes, you want things that look good but feel good too. But lots of retail stores can get pretty pricey. Stores like TJ Maxx have a little bit of everything and since they buy their merchandise right from the vendor, you can find some good deals A lot of you ladies probably know about TJ Maxx but guys let me tell you, this store is great especially if you're looking for some shirts and ties for business or to go on a mission or anything else you might need. They have good styles, name brands and they're pretty cheap. Your hair is one of the first things people notice about you but it can be expensive to maintain the look you want. Amy Hanson is a stylist and owner of the Defining Line Salon in downtown Idaho Falls. She also instructs classes to other stylists, so she knows her hair. "Well I think it comes down to quality. I think if you're getting a good hair cut and you're getting good services in general whether it's color or it's perm or whatever you're getting; just that you're getting someone who is very skilled so that your hair is going to look better for longer," says Hanson. Hair products can also be costly, but Amy says if you pay a little more for the right one, you can save overall. "I think a lot of times one product that's made and recommended specifically for your hair is better than using four or five or six at home," says Hanson.
