Girl Sends 21 Thousand Texts in One Month
By Danielle Leigh
How often do you use your cell phone? It's probably not anywhere near as much as one girl in Pocatello.
This 14-year-old has sent 21-thousand text messages in just one month. "I won't go to sleep until like one or two in the morning because I am still texting people," says Chalayne Hennings. "I don't know how she sleeps eats or lives," says her older sister Shantel Hennings. This texting habit is no one time thing. I saw last month's bill and Chalayne Hennings sent over 16 thousand messages. That number does not include the messages she received. Here's the shocking part, her sister calls that a slow month. "It sometimes drives me crazy if like you try to get their attention and she is sometimes so worried about what she is doing with her phone that it feels like it takes forever for her to do something and complete it successfully around the house, or you know she is just always worried about her phone," says Shantel. So how often does Chalayne need to send a text to get over 16 thousand in one month? I did the math. There's 60 minutes in an hour, 24 hours in a day, and about 30 days in a month. Divide that number (43,200) by 16 thousand, and through out the month, Chalayne would have had to send at least one text every two to three minutes to get to 16 thousand. That's about 20 to 30 texts every hour. "It's really surprising. I didn't think I text that much at all," says Chalayne. The hobby or what some would call obsession has gotten her into a bit of trouble. "Yeah, I got in trouble in school texting a lot," says Chalayne. It's also been costly for her parents who only switched Chalayne to an unlimited plan after one hefty bill. "It wasn't I think that she had her phone two weeks and she had an 800 dollar phone bill before they got the unlimited stuff like that," says Shantel. The unlimited plan allows Chalayne to text as much as she wants for about 25 dollars. So she has no intentions of kicking the habit. "Most people are like how do you manage paying for it. It's unlimited so it's easier to text than call people," says Chalayne. If you think that's a lot just wait until you hear from the girl I talk to tomorrow. She texts so much, the buttons on her brand new phone are already falling off. |
