IDAHO FALLS - Borrowing a book, zero dollars. Buying from the library book sale, under 5 dollars. Not having to face the winter weather outside, priceless.
It's a winter activity that doesn't cost a pretty penny. And what can be better in the winter months than curling up with a good book?

"If the parents will read, their children will read. Children who have books in their home do better in school, they do better in life," say library director Robert Wright.

The Idaho Falls Public Library is giving your pockets a break. Whether you're borrowing or buying a book, doing so at the library can be a steal. And more people are using this to their advantage as they watch their pocketbooks.

"Traditionally library services increase during tough economic times. That's a well proven trend. When the economy goes bad, people use the library more," says Wright.

And there is more for you to do here. The friends of the Library has a used book sale and craft fair with prices are as low as a quarter per book. The more expensive ones are just a few dollars.

"I'm just a book lover and I come here and occasionally find a gem," says Friends of the Library volunteer, Jim Geringer.

The library also has programs like winter reading for adults and it comes along with a prize for every three books you read.

"Our ideal of a perfect library is all empty shelves because then everyone is using the books," says wright.

This week Gov. Otter signed a bill requiring Idaho to sue the federal government if Congress passes health care reform. What's your response to this?

  • It's great to see Idaho taking the lead on this. Someone has to stand up to what's happening in Washington.
  • We can't afford to pay for education in Idaho, but we're going to spend tax dollars to sue the feds? Ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
