A strange gasoline milestone

IDAHO FALLS - The big story everyone is talking about around Eastern Idaho is the price of gas.

Gas prices in our area have been tumbling over the past couple of months, and they've finally hit a milestone.

Earlier Tuesday, we spotted two gas stations with prices under two bucks.

The Albertson's gas station on the corner of Hitt Road and 17th in Idaho Falls was at a $1.99, while the Maverick station on the corner of First Street and Woodruff had dropped to a $1.97.

These prices are more than a dollar less than the average in our area just one month ago... back then the price was $3.18 a gallon.

Since state law requires a balanced state budget, Gov. Otter is concerned that falling tax revenue might force the state to make much deeper cuts than currently planned. What do you think about the Idaho law requiring a balanced budget?

  • It seemed like a good idea at the time, but these are unusual times. How much more can we cut out of education, etc.? We need to revisit the balanced budget law.
  • If more education funding and state services need to be cut, so be it. Sometimes it's painful to live within a budget, but it's the right thing to do.
  • Not sure.
